Richard Dunnill

Trustee

Richard taught for ten years in Inner London comprehensives before moving to University College London, eventually becoming Professor of Education and Director of Education at the University of Birmingham School of Education. As well as developing, teaching and leading programmes, he held wider University leadership roles while his research and consultancy involved working alongside public, private and community organisations across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, the US, Africa, and China.

Richard volunteered as a Samaritans Listener for eleven years. In addition, he served as Branch Director, Trustee and in other leadership roles developing the Branch’s Community Outreach and Partnerships. Nationally, Richard was Lead Volunteer for Samaritans Missing People Partnership with UK police services and Missing People Charity. As a Postvention Advisor with Samaritans Step by Step service, he supported schools, colleges, universities, and other youth settings that had just experienced a sudden unexplained death. He also led on Training, leading a team from the four UK nations and Ireland.

Richard is keen to work in support of Omega’s great team of staff and volunteers in the hugely important work of supporting people affected by loneliness and isolation – even more so in these increasingly uncertain times.
