Befriending Support for People Affected by Cancer

Monday 5th October 2026

Omega is working with Lingen Davies Cancer Support to provide telephone and pen pal befriending for people affected by cancer across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Mid Wales. This support forms part of the Lingen Davies Wellbeing Programme, helping people affected by cancer access friendship, companionship and regular social connection.

Living with cancer can sometimes make it harder to get out, see other people or take part in face-to-face activities. Family members and carers can experience loneliness and isolation too. Through our Chatterbox and Letterbox services, we can provide regular friendship and social connection from the comfort of home.

Who is the Service For?

This support is available to people aged 18+ in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Mid Wales who are experiencing loneliness or social isolation and are:

  • living with or beyond cancer; or
  • a family member or carer of someone affected by cancer.

How Can the Service Help?

If you enjoy a good chat, Chatterbox can match you with a volunteer befriender for a friendly and supportive telephone conversation each week.

If writing is more your thing, Letterbox can match you with a pen pal to exchange regular letters and cards.

Our team will support you through the process and can also provide additional signposting and support where needed.

Could You or Someone You Know Benefit?
