Omega shortlisted for Mayor’s awards

Omega which supports elderly people through compassionate befriending and support has been shortlisted for an award in the Mayor’s Awards 2022.

Each year, the awards recognise and celebrate those unsung heroes who have made an outstanding contribution to the town of Shrewsbury.

The charity has been shortlisted for the Mayor’s Climate Emergency Award for its energy efficiency activities, sustainability and recycling. As well as doing all it can to be more energy efficient at its Shrewsbury base, the charity uses volunteer cycle couriers wherever possible and recycles people’s unwanted items such as old ink cartridges, stamps, old and foreign currency, and old mobile phones, tablets and chargers, to raise much needed funds to support its vital work.

Omega’s community fundraiser, Claire Purcell, has been shortlisted for the Mayor’s Community Award for her contribution to people’s social wellbeing (Claire is pictured holding Omega’s printer cartridge recycling box). Volunteer, Peter Bond, has also been nominated for an award for the work he does for the charity.

The shortlisted nominees have been invited to an awards presentation on Thursday 28 April. Everyone at Omega is keeping their fingers crossed!
