Mayor's Awards 2022

Charity honoured in Mayor’s Awards 2022

Omega which supports elderly people through compassionate befriending and support has been honoured in the Mayor’s Awards 2022.

Each year, the awards recognise and celebrate those unsung heroes who have made an outstanding contribution to the town of Shrewsbury.

The charity was given a Mayor’s Award in recognition of its achievements towards promoting a carbon neutral Shrewsbury in the area through its energy efficiency activities, sustainability and recycling initiatives.

As well as doing all it can to be more energy efficient at its Shrewsbury base, Omega uses volunteer cycle couriers wherever possible and recycles people’s unwanted items such as old ink cartridges, stamps, old and foreign currency, and old mobile phones, tablets and chargers, to raise much needed funds to support its vital work.

The charity’s community fundraiser Claire Purcell and volunteers Peter Bond and Mike Smith were also given awards in the community category.

Claire said: “It was a great night. I felt so honoured to have been nominated and to have received an award. Getting four awards was a fantastic achievement for our charity. It’s brilliant to see that our hard work is being recognised.”
