Welcome to Omega...

"Most dying today is not well managed. Instead, we are witnessing a rise in shameful forms of dying. It is not cancer, heart disease or medical science that present modern dying with its greatest moral tests, but rather poverty, ageing and social exclusion."

                                              - Allan Kellehear, Professor of Sociology, University of Bath.

OMEGA, the National Association for End of Life Care, is a young charity with ambitious plans, aiming to promote excellence in care for people nearing the end of their lives.

It developed from the work of the National Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Centre, but has a broader remit in end of life care, covering several areas of work, including:

  • supporting carers
  • research and evaluation of effective solutions including hosting online versions of the After Death Analysis (ADA) tool
  • raising awareness and sharing information about a range of end of life issues
  • bringing people together to share ideas and develop best practices

Never has the need to consistently deliver first class end of life care been so important.

All of us will be affected by the increasing pressure upon stretched hospital resources linked to an ageing population.
If we are to be successful, we require a huge team effort. Only by
joining together with like-minded organisations and talented
individuals determined to make a difference, can we hope to make a worthwhile impact.

If you would like to hear more about our important work please call 0845 259 3163 (local rate) or email info@omega.uk.net

Changes to GSF care homes accreditation

From August 16th, The Gold Standards Framework CIC will be taking over the accrediation process from Omega. Beyond this date, Omega will unfortunately no longer be in a position to deal with enquiries relating to aspects of the programme. However, all enquiries relating to accreditation will be dealt with by the GSF team:

Email:   info@gsfcentre.co.uk
Phone:  01743 367 066
Web:     www.goldstandardsframework.nhs.uk

Omega is proud to have been involved with this worthwhile programme. We have enjoyed working with care home staff. We wish those of you making progress in Round 6 every success.

ADA

Omega will continue to deal with ADA (After Death Analysis) enquiries via the Omega ADA helpdesk, including those made by care homes using ADA as part of the accreditation programme. You can contact the Omega ADA helpdesk at ada@omega.uk.net, telephone 0845 259 3163 (local rate).
